Ross McCormack believes Rangers are now “delaying the inevitable” with Philippe Clement yet to be sacked.
The Belgian has been under severe scrutiny this term and after their 1-1 draw against Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, more questions have been raised.
Speaking on the Scottish Football Podcast (25 November), McCormack shared his thoughts on what Rangers should do about Clement’s future.
“Nothing shocks you in football but if they were going to do it they would probably have before the international break,” he said.
“By all accounts it’s not happened yet but I think it might be delaying the inevitable, most Rangers fans probably would be happy with the news.
“I don’t think there’s a right or wrong time to do it, but I just look at things that are happening right now at Ibrox and I’m not really comfortable with it.
“Even you look at the game at the weekend when he takes Cyriel Dessers off at half-time, is that really deserving? I mean, he brought them back into the game in the semi-final. He brought them back into the game away to Olympiacos in the Europa League.
“There’s a lot going on at Ibrox right now. Sometimes you can see the tide turning, maybe they get a performance or a result. At the minute it just doesn’t, nothing seems to be going right.”
Philippe Clement needs to try and win Rangers fans back over
Now that the Gers are 11 points behind league leaders Celtic, it feels near impossible that they have a chance at coming away with the title this term.
The Ibrox outfit’s summer recruitment was poor with the club even downgrading certain areas of their team with the likes of Robin Propper coming in for Connor Goldson.
There have been some rumours linking the 50-year-old with a move as head coach of the Belgian national team but at the moment, that doesn’t seem all that likely to happen.
Rangers have now also finally hired a new CEO in Patrick Stewart after James Bisgrove’s Saudi exit and while it’s a small indication that things could be turning around at the club, it’s nice for fans to know that moves are being made behind the scenes.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Clement but if his recent results are anything to go by, it’s hard to see how he’ll keep his job for much longer.
In other Rangers news, a “radical overhaul” claim has emerged after big news at Ibrox over the past few days.
