'Mind-blowing' - Youth Expert predicts 'Outstanding' Tottenham gem to emulate Ledley King

John Wenham believes Tottenham Under-18 defender Junai Byfield has the potential to follow in the footsteps of Ledley King.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels the central defender has the most potential of all of the club’s current Under-18 players.

Lucá Williams-Barnett has been flying for the Under-18s this season, with the 16-year-old unable to stop scoring.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – claims Byfield has even more potential.

“Williams-Barnett isn’t even the top outstanding prospect in that group, which is mind-blowing,” Wenham said.

“I believe Byfield has the most potential. He is a central defender, which means he won’t get the credit of forwards with the goals and assists they provide.

“However, he is outstanding. I think Tottenham might finally have somebody who could be the heir to King. A defender who can come through the academy and make a real impact on the first team.”

Of course, it is still extremely early days when it comes to Byfield. However, to be compared to a legendary figure such as King is a huge compliment.

King was never quite able to fulfil his potential due to serious injury issues, which often prevented the defender from even being able to train.

However, there is no question then when it comes to pure talent, he is one of the best central defenders the Premier League and English football has ever seen.

Therefore, if Byfield has even just half of that talent, he promises to be a very exciting player for Spurs and Ange Postecoglou.

And he isn’t the only young defender causing excitement in North London.
