Doctor: Rangers player out with Grade 2 injury, unlikely to play 90 minutes this month

Rangers attacker Oscar Cortes is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes in September given his recent injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the Colombian winger has suffered a Grade 2 setback, which has kept him out of action.

Philippe Clement said at the time that he would be out of action for around five weeks – which would mean he’s in contention to make a first-team return.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “Based on the timeline thus far, I reckon this would be a Grade 2 injury if it’s ligament based.

In terms of recovery, he’s at the stage where he’s back to sports specific training and once he’s able to reintegrate fully into team training with the desired response, bounce matches will be the next step.

He should be back in first-team training any time soon but is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes in any game this month.

Rangers must take it easy with Oscar Cortes to avoid re-injury

Since he moved to Ibrox, the 20-year-old has battled setbacks with regard to his fitness and has never quite got the momentum that playing consistently would get him.

It’s important that the club ease him back into the setup so as to get him acquainted with football at the senior level again.

Hopefully, he manages to stay fit for the rest of the season as he’s the sort of player who can make a real difference for the club in the final third.
