'Money There' - David Edgar: Rangers claim incoming transfer situation not what Clement said

Rangers claim they have money to fund incoming transfers despite the club’s need to sell players in the transfer window, according to David Edgar.

Reporting via the Heart and Hand podcast on X (15 July) Edgar said that while Philippe Clement has suggested the Gers must sell before buying [Rangers Review, 14 July], the club has insisted that won’t stop incoming business.

While the Light Blues are not believed to be close to any new additions [Chris Jack, 12 July] there will still be funds available to the Belgian to make signings even if players don’t depart imminently.

Writing on X, Edgar said: “Club is saying that while it’s obvious that players need to leave as others are coming in, there is money there and it wouldn’t stop incomings.

“Again though, actions speak louder than words.”

Are Rangers close to any new signings during the summer transfer window?

There has certainly been a sour feeling around the Rangers fanbase over the last few weeks due to the lack of incoming transfer activity and the current situation unfolding at Ibrox, but things may not be as bad as they seem.

While Clement seemed quite clear in his verdict that the Gers would have to sell before they buy, the messaging from within the club appears to be that the need to trim the squad is not more important than new arrivals.

Nothing may yet be close in terms of new signings, but that doesn’t mean the funds won’t be made available should Nils Koppen and Clement identify a player who could come in and strengthen the first team.

At some point however, the Light Blues are going to have to start shifting some of the dead wood in Glasgow and begin cutting that wage bill because there are far too many players still in situ that offer very little on the pitch.

Until they’re out the door, the Belgian won’t be able to put his stamp on the playing squad.
