More movement is expected around Rangers trio James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Todd Cantwell’s future in the “coming days”, according to The Fourth Official.
The outlet reported via its YouTube channel (15 July, 2:10) that with the Saudi Pro League’s transfer window set to open on Wednesday (17 July) interest in the Gers trio could step up sooner rather than later.
All three players are understood to have garnered the interest of Saudi clubs this summer, while Birmingham City are also believed to hold an interest in bringing Goldson south of the border.
Speaking on YouTube, The Fourth Official said: “It’s my understanding that with the Saudi window opening this Wednesday (17 July) I would be expecting a little bit more movement regarding Connor Goldson, Todd Cantwell and James Tavernier.
“Obviously there’s a bit of interest from Birmingham City in Connor Goldson as well, so that may certainly start moving over the course of the coming days.”
Will James Tavernier exit Rangers amid Saudi Pro League transfer speculation?
Philippe Clement is looking to cut his wage bill this summer but so far has been unable to shift any of Rangers’ higher earners whilst managing to bring an incoming transfer fee into Ibrox.
Few clubs are going to be willing to match the wages the Gers can offer to the likes of Tavernier and Goldson at this stage of their careers. However, the Saudi Pro League may offer the Light Blues a way out of these contracts.
As long as the exit-linked trio are willing to move to the Middle East this summer, this could be a deal that suits all parties.
Clement will clear some space on his wage bill, Rangers will pocket transfer fees and the players will still be on good contracts.
Hopefully, there will be some more movement in the coming days as has been predicted. Ultimately, it will become clear if the interest in all three players is genuine once the window opens in the next couple of days.
