Rangers will be required to pay extra to ensure the Hampden Park pitch is ready in time for the new Scottish Premiership campaign, as reported by Football Scotland.
It has been reported (15 July), that Scottish FA chiefs are wasting no time to step up their efforts so that the surface is playable in time for their opening Scottish Premiership clash with Motherwell on August 10.
While there does appear to be some hope for the long-term financial benefits of the temporary move, there are certainly more questions than answers at this point in proceedings after work on Ibrox being delayed.
Can Rangers make this work at Hampden Park?
It is suggested that Rangers will be playing up to five home matches at Hampden Park up to Scotland’s UEFA Nations League collision with Poland on September 5 [Scottish Sun].
This switch has been confirmed by the SPFL Board, and in terms of comparisons, it feels similar to when English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur made themselves welcome at Wembley Stadium ahead of the move to their new ground in 2019.
Rangers are no strangers to Hampden Park and have celebrated many monumental moments there over the years. In equal measure, they’re coming off the back of a season in which they were second-best in both the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup.
Philippe Clement understands the importance of winning at the elite level. So, while it may not be ideal, he’ll be hoping to use this stint as motivation for their eventual return home to Ibrox.
John Bennett has not helped himself during this saga with the lack of communication, but hopefully this can all be put to bed now.
In other Rangers news, there’s been an update on Kenny McLean’s fitness status as the Gers continue to try and get that transfer over the finish line.
