AC Milan have approached Chelsea over a move for Romelu Lukaku, while new Napoli boss is keen to sign the striker this summer.

Lukaku signed for the Blues for the second time in his career in 2021, returning to Stamford Bridge from Inter Milan for a whopping £97.5m.

However, the move proved to be disastrous as the Belgian netted eight Premier League goals in his first season back in England before comprehensively falling out with management.

Despite the enormous fee they paid for his services, Lukaku was sent back to Inter on loan for the 2022/23 campaign and spent last season on loan at Roma.

Sky Sport Italia report that AC Milan want to get in on that action and bring Lukaku on loan to Serie A for another season, contacting Chelsea about a possible short-term deal.

However, the report states that the Blues are not keen in loaning the striker out anymore and are looking for a permanent sale, with reports that he has a release clause of £38m in his contract and this is the fee the west London club are looking to receive.

It may be that if no club makes that kind of offer that a deal could be done, with Chelsea and AC Milan coming to agreements regularly in recent years as the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic have moved from Stamford Bridge to the San Siro.

There is also interest from Napoli, though, or at least their new manager Antonio Conte who Sky Sport report has already been in contact with Lukaku over a possible move.

Conte was in charge of Inter when they win the Serie A title in 2021, with Lukaku scoring 21 league goals in a superb campaign.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham boss takes over after Napoli finished a very disappointing 10th last season and he would love to add the firepower of Lukaku to his squad ahead of this first campaign in charge.

Napoli still have Victor Osimhen at their disposal, but he is expected to leave this summer and Lukaku could be his replacement.
