MSP react to Tottenham links in new Everton takeover bid update - report

Everton have the full focus of investment group MSP Sports Capital despite reports linking them with a buyout at Tottenham, according to GiveMeSport.

MSP have reportedly been assessing their options regarding Everton’s future, having already been involved at Goodison Park for over a year after loaning £158million to the club.

Links with the potential buying of shares at Tottenham were dismissed by the New York-based group, who if they were to step in and succeed Farhad Moshiri, could do so in a variety of ways [Paul O’Keefe].

It is reported that MSP, after steadying the ship financially by converting their £158million loan into equity, could then own a stake of around 25 per cent and allow other investors they are involved with to run the club.

Everton fans will not want MSP Capital takeover

MSP’s various ways of securing a potential takeover at Goodison Park certainly won’t make them popular in the long-term with the Toffees faithful.

Leveraging equity and debt to make a return on the £158million loan paid to the club makes sense from a financial standpoint, but fans are more likely to want a clean break from all of this drama to move forward [BBC].

2024/25 is set to be Everton’s last season at Goodison Park but first under prospective new owners.

With fans of the club like Andy Bell and George Downing now having the backing of the multi-billion dollar MSD Partners, it’s likely that they could become front-runners to assume Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake [The Telegraph].

A potential flipping of the club – buying and selling for a profit as soon as possible – also won’t be a tactic welcomed by Toffees fans, who are more inclined to welcome an ownership bid with a long-term strategic plan in mind.

That plan is even more crucial when accounting for the upcoming season, which will see Everton say goodbye to Goodison Park before moving to their new stadium on Bramley-Moore Dockin 2025-26.

In other Everton news, supporters will be buzzing after other Manchester United targets emerged in the transfer race for Jarrad Branthwaite.
