Iliman Ndiaye has been hailed by the Senegalese national media as a “treat” after their win over Malawi, despite an injury scare for the Everton star.
Ndiaye set up Pape Gueye for the opening goal of their Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifier on Friday night [11 October], but was withdrawn as a precaution in the 65th minute after suffering a knock.
The Senegal side went on to stroll to a comprehensive 4-0 victory, with national media site WIW Sport [11 October] lauding the Toffees forward’s display with a 7/10 rating.
“One of the strong choices of this first eleven of Pape Thiaw, the Everton striker justified the confidence of his coach,” the website said.
“Less radiant in the first minutes and quickly shifted to the left side, he was very clean in his ball handling, efficient in his dribbling and right in his choices.
“After a nice combination with Jackson, he served Pape Gueye for the opening [goal]. The former Sheffield United player was a treat for his teammates and for the spectators. Too bad he gave up his place due to injury.”
Wider sporting website SportsDunia [11 October] also gave Ndiaye a score of seven, writing: “Fought valiantly for possession and came away victorious many times; bagged the assist for their opening goal.”
Iliman Ndiaye starts life at Everton well
Ndiaye has suited Everton at this current time – a livewire player who always gives teams something to think about, while opponents have been preoccupied with taking advantage of a poor defence this season.
Capable out wide, in behind the striker or spearheading the attack, he is keen to impress and knows this is the best chance of becoming a Premier League regular he will get.
Ndiaye’s goal at Leicester was one no other Toffees player is scoring – and it shows that Sean Dyche’s team contains dynamism.
Along with Dwight McNeil, the Senegalese possesses that untouchable ability to take a game by the scruff of its neck.
The Goodison faithful will now hope there was nothing serious in the precautionary measure to withdraw Ndiaye midway through the second half on Friday, but the fact he walked off the field is at least a positive sign.
