New bid expected for Rangers-linked 'Top Quality' striker as absence last night explained - report

Rapid Bucharest are expecting to receive a new offer for Rangers target Albion Rrahmani in the next few days, according to Sorin Chiriac.

The Play Sport journalist reported via Instagram on 29 July that the Kosovan striker was not featuring in the clash with Petrolul the same evening in part because he is not fully fit, but unofficially because a bid is on the way for him from an unnamed side.

He added, as relayed by Rangers Review’s Derek Clark via X, that Rapid want €6million [£5.05m] plus a 20 per-cent sell-on included in a deal to let him go.

Chiriac previously discussed Rrahmani with Clark for Rangers Review on 21 May as the Light Blues pursued the goalscorer, highlighting the “top, top quality” first-touch the 24-year-old possesses.

Rangers race for Neil Lennon striker may not be over

The last update on the striker was that he wasn’t expected to go anywhere before the transfer window shut, adding to a frustrating situation at Ibrox where the search for more firepower in front of goal has proven difficult.

Manager Neil Lennon and minority shareholder Victor Angelescu were said to have no plans to let Rrahmani go [Daily Record, 15 July, 10.56am].

That came as all the more of a blow to the Light Blues when they had previously been reported to be in pole position to win the race for his signature a month earlier [Football Scotland, 17 June].

Whether that is still the case now that it appears the race is back on, or whether it comes from a rival side, is not yet clear.

Albion Rrahmani is expected to be subject of another bid from an unnamed club.

The Daily Record reported earlier on 29 July that Sam Lammers’ sale to FC Twente had freed up the necessary transfer budget to make a run at Lawrence Shankland from Hearts.

Philippe Clement is said to be “locked” into internal talks at Ibrox over whether to move for the Scotland international after previously holding doubts over his style of play.

So it may be that the Belgian has decided to instead return to the pursuit of Rrahmani if the incoming bid is coming from Glasgow.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have been backed to land a massive transfer windfall by selling a star man with “real quality” as new signings are predicted.
