Newcastle could be about to sign the 'next Lucas Bergvall'

Newcastle could be on the brink of signing the next Lucas Bergvall as the club pursues PAOK striker Stefanos Tzimas.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes the 18-year-old could follow in the footsteps of the Tottenham player as he’s “definitely a future star.”

The Magpies are considering a move for the teenager who is being valued at £15million, but they face competition from the likes of Spurs and West Ham United.

He has earned comparisons to fellow 18-year-old Bergvall, who made the move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window and has gone on to make five appearances for Spurs.

Howe wants to enhance his attacking options and believes that Tzimas has the potential to grow and learn under Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

“He’s only on loan at Nuremberg from PAOK in Greece,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“[He’s the] Youngest ever scorer in PAOK’s history when I looked at this this morning, so he’s got potential, but I mean he’s 18 years old.

“If PAOK don’t see him as a member of their first team squad, playing in the Europa League we’ve seen him this season, if he’s out on loan in Bundesliga 2 he’s not someone at the Premier League you’re going to go and pay big money for and stick him straight into the side.

“If a club pays big money for him it’ll be in the summer, and he’s definitely a future star in a similar way to Bergvall at Tottenham, he’s that type of player.”
