Newcastle United goalkeeper set to leave after new additions

Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is set to leave the club in the coming weeks, sources have told Football Insider.

The Magpies now have fine senior shot-stoppers following the recent signings John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Sources at the club say Dubravka has been told he is free to find a new club and end his lengthy association with the club.

The 35-year-old has fallen further down the pecking order at St James’ Park, and now looks set to leave the club he joined from Sparta Prague in 2018.

Newcastle have held talks about signing rising star keeper James Trafford, but are reluctant to meet Burnley’s £20million valuation.

Getting Dubravka off of the books would also free up some cash to help Eddie Howe strengthen elsewhere.

He has been linked with Celtic but the imminent signing of Kasper Schmeichel, another experienced keeper proven in the Premier League, has closed that particular door.

Newcastle United are willing to let Martin Dubravka go

The Slovenia goalkeeper is coming off the back of an impressive Euro 2024 campaign with his country, notably keeping a clean sheet in their opening 1-0 win against Belgium.

Having joined initially on loan in 2018, Newcastle decided to make the move permanent after a string of impressive performances between the sticks. He went on to make 152 Premier League appearances for the club.

Following the signing of England International Nick Pope from Burnley for a reported £10m in 2022-23, Dubravka found himself relegated to the bench.

Dubravka’s loan move to Manchester United in 2022 was abruptly cut short by his parent club following an injury to his successor. After the recall, he would only make two appearances for Newcastle, both in the EFL Cup.

In other news, Newcastle have been urged to make a flurry of signings.
