'No-brainer' - Pundit tells Tottenham to sanction attacker's exit, 'Upgrade' already secured

Alan Hutton has told Tottenham that selling Richarlison is a “no-brainer” this summer now that Dominic Solanke has arrived in North London.

The Lilywhites announced the signing of the 26-year-old forward on Saturday (10 August) in a deal worth a reported £65million after Spurs activated a release clause in his Bournemouth contract [Sky Sports, 10 August].

Richarlison spent the majority of last season playing as Spurs’ number nine under Ange Postecoglou, but the Brazilian is understood to be a target for several clubs in the Saudi Pro League ahead of the transfer deadline [talkSPORT, 12 May].

Now that Spurs have managed to sign a player who is an improvement on the Brazilian forward, Hutton believes it is the right time for the Lilywhites to part ways with Richarlison and pocket a good fee for his signature.

“I think you’re getting an upgrade,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“In terms of a number nine, a finisher, a guy that’s going to score you those goals and he had great numbers last season.

“The way that Ange Postecoglou likes to play football, I believe he’s going to get more opportunities as well.

“If he hits the ground running, I think he’ll be a Spurs favourite because he will be scoring regularly.

“If the Richarlison deal can be done, then I think it’s a no-brainer.”

Will Richarlison exit Tottenham after Dominic Solanke transfer?

With Solanke through the door, it really isn’t clear where Richarlison fits into Postecoglou’s plans next season, particularly given the sheer amount of speculation around his future over the last couple of months.

The former Bournemouth striker will almost certainly start week in and week out given the amount of money Spurs paid for his signature and there are several options ahead of Richarlison when it comes to the wide areas.

With European football back on the agenda in North London, more options will be required so that Postecoglou can rest and rotate players, but Richarlison is unlikely to be happy with that sort of role.

If Tottenham can pocket a good £50million-plus fee for the Brazilian international, they would be stupid not to take it, but convincing Richarlison to make that move may be harder than expected.
