Man United defender Noussair Mazraoui has been slammed for his “crazy” behaviour in the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth by Darren Ambrose.
The Moroccan international had been in good form at Old Trafford since his arrival, but his mistake proved costly at Old Trafford as he slid in to concede a second-half penalty after an hour.
Ruben Amorim’s side were down just 1-0 before the penalty incident, but Justin Kluivert’s stepover exposed Mazraoui’s defensive frailties.
The full-back mistimed his needless tackle, which led Ambrose on Sky Sports News to criticise him. He said: “It’s Mazraoui on Justin Kluivert. It’s great feet, he gets the ball and drives into the box, gives it a little step over, and as he goes wide. Mazraoui slides in.
“Yeah, it’s a penalty, it’s a clear penalty all day long… it’s a crazy decision from Mazraoui. He’s attacking the goal, but the stepover is going off the pitch potentially. He’s slid in and cleaned him out”.
Man United have had no bounce under Ruben Amorim
Football Insider opinion
The Manchester club currently sit a disappointing 13th and could be set for a mid-table finish if things don’t improve. They have won four, lost four, and drawn one since Amorim’s arrival.
The Portuguese manager has had to deal with deeper issues in the squad, and his relationship with Marcus Rashford has certainly faltered.
Despite the Moroccan full-back being one of the bright sparks this season, it highlights the defensive problems at Old Trafford. The team continues to concede from set-pieces, with Bournemouth’s first goal coming from one of those situations.
Dean Huijsen scored their first goal. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he takes to social media to poke fun at his opponents, as he did with Tottenham.
With the club now “under pressure” to sell players to help Amorim, it remains to be seen whether clubs will be interested in their fringe players. The manager certainly needs reinforcements.
In other news, a Man United star is growing more likely to sign a new contract.
