Official: Manchester United Women swoop for Celin Bizet in Tottenham Women transfer blow

Tottenham Women have confirmed that Norway international forward Celin Bizet has joined Manchester United.

Bizet’s departure was announced by Spurs via their official website on 4 September, with the Norwegian attacker commanding a reported £60,000 fee from Tottenham’s fellow Women’s Super League side [BBC, 4 September].

Bizet is the latest of several high-profile players to leave North London this summer, with Spurs having brought in just four players the other way – including Hayley Raso from Real Madrid.

While the addition of Australian international forward Raso from Real Madrid will be seen as a coup in North London, Spurs losing one of their key players to a WSL rival is much more sombre news.

Bizet has been a regular for the Lilywhites in both of her campaigns at Brisbane Road, and given she’s also one of the first names on Norway’s team sheet, it remains to be seen how she’ll be replaced.

Raso could well take the 22-year-old’s place in attack when their WSL campaign begins against Crystal Palace on 22 September, but losing Bizet does leave questions over their ambitions this season.

Manchester United finished just one place and four points ahead of Robert Vilahamn’s side in the WSL last season, and thus Bizet joining the Red Devils suggests that they could move further ahead of Spurs.

Last season saw a 19-point gap open up between Spurs and bitter rivals Arsenal in the final qualification place for the Champions League, and for Tottenham to begin bridging that gap without Bizet, their four new signings must to hit the ground running.
