'Oh dear' - Lineker and Shearer react to 'Terrible' moment from Everton ace v Tottenham on MOTD

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer agreed that Jordan Pickford made a “terrible” mistake as Everton were thrashed 4-0 at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day [24 August], the duo analysed the second goal in the game, scored in the first half by Son Heung-min as he robbed Pickford of possession and slotted into an empty net.

Sean Dyche’s side went on to lose heavily for the second week in a row, rooting the Toffees to the foot of the Premier League table.

Shearer firstly said live on the broadcast: “Son goes after Jordan Pickford, and it’s just a terrible error.”

“Oh dear,” Lineker agreed upon watching back the clip.

Everton and Jordan Pickford must bounce back

For all the problems Everton have faced on and off the pitch in recent seasons, Pickford has not been one of them; in fact, England’s undisputed number one has been one of the shining lights.

His commitment to the club has been unwavering, and his performances have saved the Toffees from further danger down the years.

There’s no getting away from the fact it was a glaring error, and a man of Pickford’s experience was quick to hold his hands straight up.

Everton did act to bring back Asmir Begovic in the week to strengthen the squad’s backup options, but it would take something consistently catastrophic to force Pickford from his perch.

The team, meanwhile, are not yet in dire straits but could be heading that way if matters aren’t rectified quickly – the next opportunity to bounce back is a Carabao Cup tie with Doncaster Rovers, which could put the wind at least back in the sails.

After that, it’s Bournemouth at Goodison Park – and points on the board are needed to prevent a long and dreary international break for Blues fans.

In other Everton news, a reason is highlighted why the club should forget about signing Armando Broja.
