'I can confirm...' - Fabrizio Romano shares Everton update as Chelsea react to Broja danger

Chelsea and Armando Broja are now looking for alternatives to his proposed Ipswich move amid interest from Everton, Fabrizio Romano reports.

According to the Italian journalist in his Daily Briefing on 25 August there has yet to be a new offer from the Toffees despite their ongoing interest in the Albanian striker, after his loan-to-buy exit to Ipswich ran into difficulties.

The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg reported via X on 24 August that the deal was now in danger of collapsing, with Everton named as a rival suitor.

They are also the only club named by Romano, although there are believed to be others, as Chelsea work on finding a new destination for what is seen as a “really important” exit from Stamford Bridge.

Romano said: “For Armando Broja, there’s always been interest from Everton but no fresh bid while I’m writing this column. It’s just one of the clubs being interested since June then nothing else in terms of bids or contacts.

“I can confirm that Broja and Chelsea have started to look at different options as the Ipswich deal is currently in danger.”

Everton could sell Neal Maupay or Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Sean Dyche has seen his side draw a blank in defeats to Brighton and Tottenham to open the season, which may have increased interest in adding a striker.

The Toffees boss has now admitted publicly that Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract status might force the club to sell him before the deadline [Guardian, 22 August], although it is unclear if offers will materialise when they had not earlier this month [i News, 12 August].

Neal Maupay is wanted in Marseille and the Frenchman is interested in the move to Ligue 1 [L’Equipe, 20 August] so his status could have an effect on the Broja situation.

It doesn’t seem possible for the club to move for anyone unless there are outgoings first, with Dyche stating they have “no money” after the 4-0 thrashing at Spurs [BBC Sport, 24 August].

Sean Dyche has seen his Everton side fail to score in two heavy Premier League defeats so far.

It is also open to question whether Broja is actually the answer to the ongoing inability to take chances in the Everton squad, having endured two seasons of injury and instability while scoring three goals for Chelsea and struggling on loan at Fulham.

But various factors are developing to put a potential deal back on the table at a time when it looked to have been removed.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could now attempt a shock move for a star defender after a “sensational” decision.
