Everton make enquiry to Euro club for new defender signing - report

Everton have made an enquiry about Sevilla right-back Gonzalo Montiel in regard to a move before deadline day, according to Diario ABC.

The Spanish outlet reported on 25 August that the Toffees had asked about the defender but it wasn’t made clear if it was in terms of a loan or permanent deal.

Sean Dyche’s men aren’t the only side vying for his transfer with the likes of Nottingham Forest – where he was on loan last season – also interested in acquiring his services before the window slams shut on Friday (30 August).

Despite Everton having only played two Premier League games so far, it’s clear that they need further reinforcement.

The club have welcomed the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom to their ranks which has no doubt bolstered their attack.

Indeed, it was obvious that their attack needed improvement and although these additions will no doubt help the club in the long run, it feels as if Dyche should have spread his money across the squad.

At the time of writing, Ashley Young is suspended [Richard Keys, 19 August] and Nathan Patterson is still sidelined which has left Dyche in a bit of a pickle.

The club have no senior right-back available so a move for Montiel makes a lot of sense, especially given the fact that he already has Premier League experience.

Whether it be a permanent or loan deal remains to be seen but there’s no doubt that a full-back needs to be brought in by the end of the window.
