Andros Townsend was concerned after Everton veteran Seamus Coleman suffered a new injury worry as the Republic of Ireland faced England on Saturday (7 September).
Having only made seven Premier League starts last season, the 35-year-old has only just returned from the treatment table at Goodison Park, and Sean Dyche will now be awaiting an update on his full-back.
The defender was substituted 12 minutes into the second half after a coming-together with Manchester United man Harry Maguire, with the Toffees facing a nervous wait over their captain.
Speaking live via ITV 1 [7 September, 6:16pm], Townsend said: “Oh no… Hopefully, it’s just a scrape down his Achilles. His boot is off, he’s got a hole in his sock.
“Yeah, Harry Maguire just scrapes the back of Coleman’s Achilles.”
Everton suffer Seamus Coleman injury blow in Republic of Ireland v England
Having worked tirelessly to return to the football pitch, it would be incredibly sad if Coleman was to be sidelined once again through a new injury.
The clash with Maguire was completely innocuous, and the hope will be that Heimir Hallgrimsson has taken off as a precaution, with fellow Everton teammate Jake O’Brien replacing him.
Dyche cannot afford to have another injury blow at right-back, with the position a huge problem at Goodison Park, though it was not dealt with during the summer transfer window.
Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier was seen as a potential addition to fix the problem, as per David Ornstein, but a deal never came to fruition at the Merseyside club.
Ashley Young, 39, has already been sent off against Brighton, while Nathan Patterson has not returned from injury yet, and academy star Roman Dixon was called up to face Tottenham.
Many fans are already against the international break, and they will be even more frustrated by the pause in Premier League football if Coleman sustains another long-term injury.
In other Everton news, Kevin Thelwell could face questions if last-gasp signing fails this season.
