O'Hara slams 'Embarrassing' Everton player, not surprised he's not moved clubs

Jamie O’Hara has slammed Dominic Calvert-Lewin for his performance for Everton in the 3-2 loss to Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old missed several chances at Villa Park after his goal gave the Blues a two-goal lead in the first half and squandered a massive opportunity with the score 2-1, failing to get a shot away when one-on-one with Emi Martinez.

O’Hara couldn’t believe how Calvert-Lewin missed the chance when discussing the loss live on talkSPORT [14 September, 6:46pm], sharing his decision-making as the reason why the forward remained at Goodison Park this summer.

He said: “It’s embarrassing. This is why he’s not gone to a top side. He’s one-on-one with the goalkeeper, has acres of space, and he doesn’t even get a shot away. It’s embarrassing.”

In an ideal world, Calvert-Lewin makes the right decision on 54 minutes at Villa Park and Everton restore their two-goal lead and at least leave Birmingham with a share of the spoils.

However, Sean Dyche will now be under further scrutiny at Goodison Park [The Telegraph] as his side became the second side in Premier League history to lose consecutive matches wherein they held a two-goal lead.

The forward cannot be blamed solely for the loss. While in retrospect his missed chance has become a massive talking point [Match of the Day] in the aftermath, the finger should be pointed at Dyche and his abysmal game management.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be moved on by Everton if he doesn’t sign a new contract

Calvert-Lewin remained on Merseyside after a summer of constant speculation and has put the uncertainty of the transfer window behind him with two goals in his last two outings.

He played his role against Aston Villa to an extent. It is a forward’s job to score goals and not prevent them – Michael Keane and Ashley Young in particular need to bear the brunt of the criticism for their role in the loss.

It can no longer be denied that Everton are genuine relegation candidates this season. The bulk of the squad is not good enough and the boss looks lost for ideas. Serious change is needed at Goodison Park before it is too late.
