BBC pundit names potential Dyche replacement in Everton sack verdict

Everton could turn to David Moyes if they choose to part ways with Sean Dyche, according to Nigel Reo-Coker.

Speaking on the BBC’s Football Daily podcast (15 September), Reo-Coker said that despite Dyche having done a good job at Goodison Park, the pressure is increasing after four straight losses to start the Premier League season.

The Toffees saw a 2-0 lead become a late 3-2 defeat for the second Premier League game running at Aston Villa to remain at the foot of the table, and Reo-Coker suggested ex-Toffees boss Moyes as a possible alternative.

He said: “When you look at what’s happening now as well – yes Sean Dyche was (already) there – but Everton have been trending this same way for so long.

“I’m not putting it out there, but there is a certain David Moyes who knows that club very well, inside out, who currently isn’t managing anyone.

“The pressure is different now on Sean Dyche, where Everton might look to change the manager and bring someone else in for new ideas or a fresh start.”

Everton need a radical change if they choose to sack Sean Dyche

While Dyche isn’t yet on the brink of the sack at Goodison Park, any more second-half collapses akin to those against Bournemouth and Villa will surely see the 53-year-old given his marching orders.

If the Blues’ boardroom – which could also prove a sticking point in the decision-making process – do decide to pull the trigger, though, it’s arguable they need to choose a completely different direction.

Moyes’ style of play is, on the surface, similar to that of Dyche’s, but his defensive record at West Ham last season should set alarm bells ringing for those who want the Scot to return.

West Ham’s 74 goals conceded last season, the fourth-most in the Premier League, was a stark contrast to the Toffees’ 51, which coincidentally was the fourth-best of any side despite their lowly position.

With Moyes unlikely to bring much positive change compared to what Dyche is already doing at Goodison, it seems more likely that the Blues will wait until new ownership – potentially in the form of John Textor –  is in the building before making a decision on Dyche’s future [Miguel Delaney, 12 September].

In other Everton news, Paul Robinson blasted the Toffees defence following one “awful” moment in their 3-2 loss at Aston Villa.
