Oli McBurnie '100%' wants to join Rangers after extensive 'talks' over deal

Oli McBurnie has admitted “there have always been talks” over a move to Rangers at multiple times in his career.

The 28-year-old striker joined Spanish side Las Palmas this summer following his release from Sheffield United at the end of last season.

He has since become a bright spark for the Gran Canaria-based side, providing two assists in their opening four games of the La Liga season as they languish in 18th.

Rangers invested £1.5million in the unproven forward Hamza Igamane, 21, a highly regarded youngster, but so far, he’s only played a total of 10 minutes on the field.

Cyriel Dessers has since established himself as the club’s undisputed number nine, scoring three goals in four Scottish Premier League games for Rangers so far.

Rangers could have used McBurnie in their 3-0 defeat to Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the season on Sunday (September 1).

Speaking to Paul Slane for an Open Goal video blog, McBurnie said: “To be fair this was the only year when I’ve not heard anything from them.

“There’s always been talks but nothing has really come of it – whether it has been the right time for me or them.“

When asked about whether he would still like to play for the Glasgow club he said, “Yeah 100% – at one point in my life.

“But I don’t think now is the right for me to do it, I’ve signed for three years.”

McBurnie struggled in the Premier League with Sheffield United last season, scoring just six goals and providing three assists in 21 league appearances.

His biggest moment came in their 2-2 draw with Chelsea, scoring a 93rd-minute equaliser to ensure a point for the Yorkshire club.
