'On the night': England legends deliver Jordan Pickford verdict after Euro 2024 final display vs Spain
He did his country proud ????
Jordan Pickford’s Euro 2024 final performance for England against Spain has been brought under the microscope after the Three Lions were defeated in Berlin.
Gareth Southgate’s side lost their second consecutive Euros final as England were beaten 2-1 by La Roja, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring an 86th-minute winner to claim the European championship for Spain, who were easily the best team at the tournament this summer.
Although England were again on the losing side in a European final, the Three Lions put on a good performance and gave Spain a good game, with Pickford once again imperious between the sticks against the likes of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams.
And England legends Ian Wright and Alan Shearer, as well as Christ Sutton have given their verdict on Pickford’s performance.
Pickford praised after ‘brilliant’ England display vs Spain in Euro 2024 final
Speaking during England’s clash against Spain, Pickford was rightfully praised by the likes of Wright, Shearer and Sutton, who were all impressed with what they saw from the Everton star in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin.
Shearer said on Pickford on BBC One’s coverage of the Euro 2024 final: “Yamal tries to guide it into the bottom corner but that’s a brilliant save from Pickford to stop it going in the bottom corner.”
On ITV’s feed, Wright said on Pickford’s performance: “I think you look at that game and you have to pick out Jordan Pickford in this game because as much as Spain, yes, they probably were the better side on the night, but Jordan Pickford kept us in that game. It could have been a lot worse for us.”
And speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, Sutton was also full of praise for Pickford, with the pundit saying: “That is two crucial saves! Pickford read the shot from Yamal, once again the ball just sat for him! Pickford read it brilliantly.”
Everton’s Pickford again showed why he’s a modern England legend
England have seen plenty of change in virtually every position since Southgate was appointed as manager back in 2017, yet Pickford has remained one of the few sole constants for the Three Lions in the starting XI, alongside Harry Kane.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been nothing short of incredible for England since establishing himself as the clear number one in the national team, with Pickford showing tonight against Spain why he could play at the next Euros in 2028.
And for Everton fans, there’s no denying that Pickford is modern England legend, with the former Sunderland keeper a real consistent performer for the Three Lions, who have enjoyed incredible success in the last six years under Southgate.
