Chelsea would have to pay a ‘huge fee’ if they’re to convince Nottingham Forest to sell Murillo, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that despite Chelsea’s interest, Forest are in no rush to part with the 22-year-old after his impressive start to the season.
Murillo has established himself as one of the best centre-back prospects in the Premier League, winning 27 duels, making 30 recoveries, and committing just eight fouls in nine league games.
Under Todd Boehly, Chelsea’s transfer policy has shifted, with the club now looking to add exciting young talents rather than pay top dollar for them at their peak.
It’s understood the West Londoners are keeping tabs on the Brazilian as they seek to scoop up the world’s best youngsters.
Murillo making waves at Nottingham Forest amid Chelsea interest
Forest have transformed this season. After narrowly avoiding relegation last campaign, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently sit seventh with 16 points from their first nine games, equaling half of their total from last season.
They also have the second-best defensive record in the league, conceding just seven goals, two more than title contenders Liverpool.
Chelsea on the other hand, have been their own worst enemy this season, making two errors that directly led to opposition goals.
Enzo Maresca’s insistence on playing out from the back has left them vulnerable on several occasions but it’s something that would suit Murillo.
A progressive centre-back who thrives with the ball at his feet, Murillo is more than just a big man at the back, he’s created six open-play chances for Forest so far this season.
Having played every league minute so far this season, Murillo will be hoping to keep his record intact as they prepare to face West Ham on Saturday (November 2).
