'I understand...' - Keith Wyness: Rangers have suffered new Ibrox embarassment

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has slammed Rangers chiefs after it emerged the club’s AGM will have to be held away from their New Edmiston House development.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed the building will also not cope with demand for the club’s awards dinner.

As per The Herald (24 October), Rangers have confirmed that the club’s December AGM will be held away from New Edmiston House due to demand.

The events structure, which is located next to Ibrox and was widely reported to have cost at least £12million, opened in January 2023.

Rangers have already suffered embarrassment this season after their Copland Stand development dragged on past the start of the 2024-25 campaign – forcing them to play at Hampden Park.

Rangers need new investor after new Ibrox embarrassment, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s embarrassing, just like the Ibrox issue was.

“As I understand it, the awards dinner can’t be held there as well as the AGM.

“These are two big events in the Rangers calendar.

“Why would you build a new facility like this and then have to go out and spend money on hotels for the two events?

“It doesn’t seem very Rangers. They’ve always made bold decisions, but things are starting to go wrong at board level.

“The solution comes from a new investor with business acumen, and not just as a Rangers fan.

“That’s where mistakes have happened in the past.”
