Billy Dodds said Ross County Jack Hamilton merely panicked as his error gifted Danilo Rangers’ second goal in a 3-0 at Dingwall on Sunday.
The Brazilian forward caught the goalkeeper cold trying to play out from the back then coolly finished into the unguarded goal.
Former Rangers striker Dodds discussed the incident with Jonathan Sutherland on BBC Sportscene (8 December, 7:34pm).
Sutherland said: “A really unenjoyable moment obviously from a Ross County point of view from Jack Hamilton, a painful moment from a goalkeeper, just a really heavy touch and kind of just ended County’s chances in this didn’t it?”
Dodds reacted to the footage he was shown by saying: “He gets a wee bit away from himself and he drags it then he takes a bit of time, Rangers have got that bit of confidence not just in possession but out of possession to just go and squeeze the game and Danilo’s all over and he just panics, kicks it off him then Danilo it’s a nice cute finish.”
Rangers impress at Ross County
Philippe Clement has faced more than his fair share of criticism at Rangers this season and, in fairness, a lot of it has been entirely justified because performances have consistently been well below par.
Having said that, the team have put together good run of form in recent weeks and have now gone eight games unbeaten across all competitions, winning the last four in succession and scoring 14 goals in the process.
This one was given a huge helping hand from Hamilton’s dithering but in fairness it was excellent pressure from Danilo, the sort of act and out-of-form Rangers side just a couple of weeks ago might not have done.
There’s still a huge 11-point gap to leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic that seems insurmountable still but, credit where it’s due, performances have been much better in recent matches and there is still plenty to play for this term. Long may it continue.
In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd made a “huge” claim about one Gers ace after the Ross win.
