Pat Nevin 'Truly Fearful' for Everton after what's happened behind the scenes

Pat Nevin has named Everton as the side he is most concerned about in the 2024/25 Premier League season due to what has happened behind the scenes in terms of the takeover situation.

The former Blues player wrote in the BBC Sport Football newsletter [17 August] that he fears for Everton this season even more so than the newly promoted sides.

Farhad Moshiri has been unable to find a suitable buyer for the club [talkSPORT] after failed attempts with 777 Partners and the Friedkin Group as the long-term future of the Blues is cast into doubt.

Nevin said on Everton: “The club I am truly fearful for is not a newly promoted side. If I am brutally honest, my real concerns are for my old club Everton.

“This season the problems are bigger than leaving Goodison, losing more important players, the threat of another relegation battle if there are any injuries or any more draconian points deductions.

‌”No, it is the crushing debt and the inability to get a buyer that can pass muster and is considered trustworthy.

‌”Everton’s financial woes are not over. In fact they are as bad, if not worse, than they have ever been.

“‌If they cannot find a buyer, it could still be the biggest and saddest story of the coming season.”

Will John Textor be the new Everton owner?

John Textor, an owner of Crystal Palace, is the latest to throw his hat in the ring for Everton and has entered exclusivity talks with Moshiri to buy his 94.1 per cent stake in the club.

Of course, with all cases of the Everton takeover, it is not straightforward forward and Textor must first find a buyer for his 45 per cent stake in Palace before he can conclude the deal with Moshiri.

The supporters can take solace in the fact that there is still significant interest in the club and the wheels are in motion again. Eventually, even after the disaster of 777 Partners and the Friedkin Group, Everton will be under new ownership.

Textor has a decent track record in football. Not only does he have a stake in Palace, but also with Botafogo in Brazil, Lyon in France and Molenbeek in Belgium – none of whom have had financial issues under his stewardship.

All the off-the-pitch chaos ensuing at Goodison Park needs a swift resolution. The supporters are sick and tired of the fiasco and the pressure on Moshiri to sell will surely increase following the 3-0 loss to Brighton on the opening day of the 2024/25 season.

Get it done, and get it done quickly so all parties can finally move on and matters regarding Everton Football Club can return to the pitch.

In other Everton news, Sean Dyche has been touted for an Everton exit live on BBC Sport.
