'Phenomenal blow' - Wenham concerned as 'Outstanding' Tottenham star faces suspension

John Wenham believes Tottenham will be in “big trouble” should Rodrigo Bentancur be hit with a lengthy ban by the FA.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has been impressed by the midfielder’s “outstanding” performances in recent weeks.

Bentancur was charged by the FA in September for suggesting South Korean team-mate Son Heung-min and his cousins “all look the same” during an interview broadcast in Uruguay last June (via the Standard, 12 September).

However, he is yet to receive his punishment, and Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is concerned by what it might be.

“We’ve still got this potential Bentancur ban in the background,” Wenham said.

“That has seemingly gone quiet for now. However, when we do get hit with that, that will spell big trouble.

“Bentancur has been outstanding over the past few weeks. He has looked back to his pre-injury levels. As a result, he has been one of the first names on the team sheet for me.

“His pressing is relentless, and he makes things happen. Therefore, to lose him for any significant period will be a phenomenal blow. Hopefully, his ban isn’t too lengthy.”

Ange Postecoglou to be without Rodrigo Bentancur at Tottenham?

There was talk that Bentancur could be banned for anywhere between six and 12 games. Therefore, Postecoglou will be nervously awaiting the verdict.

Bentancur has been a regular starter this season, with Postecoglou relying heavily on the midfielder. As a result, with the games coming thick and fast, the Australian can’t afford to be without the 27-year-old for too long.

However, with the FA taking their time to hand Bentancur his punishment, it seems that all the midfielder and his manager can do is sit patiently and await the verdict.
