Chris Sutton has given his prediction for this weekend’s highly anticipated Premier League clash between Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Toffees return to top-flight this action with a home fixture against the Seagulls at Goodison Park having finished 15th last term despite being docked a combined eight points for two separate PSR breaches.

When asked to give his thoughts on the game in his BBC column (16 August), Sutton predicted a 1-0 home win for the Toffees.

“Dyche always seems to have been fighting fires since taking over but without last season’s points deductions they would have been in mid-table for most of the campaign and that’s where I think they will end up this time,” he wrote.

“This is Everton’s last season at Goodison Park, and I am expecting them to start it with a home win.”

Everton need to go for it

One of the biggest takeaways heading into this game is that Calvert-Lewin is still at the club. That’s a great way to build your starting XI for a game that we expect to be really nervy from start to finish. In addition, the likes of Jesper Lindstrom and Iliman Ndiaye could feature for a team that has more than enough quality to find success here.

In terms of what’s happening on the pitch, this Toffees side appear to be more motivated than ever. Brighton’s shine came off ever so slightly last season and with a buoyant Goodison Park crowd behind them, Everton should be shooting for a big result here.

The big problem area, of course, is at the back. Jarrad Branthwaite and Seamus Coleman are set to miss out, both of whom are integral to how this squad functions. Hopefully, we get an exciting game either way – because we can picture a lot more goalmouth action than Sutton. predicts.

In other Everton news, a medical update has emerged as the Toffees have now tabled a £25m+ offer to seal a blockbuster signing ahead of the transfer deadline.
