Player on private jet right now to complete Everton signing - report

Lyon midfielder Orel Mangala is currently on a private jet ahead of a loan move to Everton, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The journalist reported via his personal X account [29 August] that the 26-year-old is on his way to Merseyside ahead of completing his medical with the Toffees, joining on a one-year loan.

It is understood that Sean Dyche’s side were facing competition from Serie A side Fiorentina, as per Gianluca Di Marzio, though the Lyon president committed to do a deal with the Toffees this summer.

Having played in the Premier League before with Nottingham Forest, it is not an awful decision to bring back to England in order to sure up the midfield at Goodison Park, especially with the transfer window closure fast approaching.

He had a mixed experience at The City Ground, making 53 appearances before being loaned out to Lyon, where he eventually signed a permanent deal. The player will be hoping for a better spell this time around.

While the return of James Garner from injury gives Dyche more options, in addition to Idrissa Gana Gueye and Tim Iroegbunam, there is still a lack of depth.

Mangala, who has experience in the Premier League, across Europe in France and Germany, as well as being a fully-fledged Belgium international, can certainly help the Toffees this season.

The Evertonians would have certainly been hoping for a better start to the new campaign, much better than a 3-0 defeat to Brighton and a 4-0 thumping by Tottenham, and the addition of Mangala could be a good one.

The reported obligation to buy, on the other hand, would be an entirely different story, though [David Anderson]. He must prove himself in the Premier League again before Everton strike a permanent deal for the midfielder.
