Tottenham could have Getafe CF centre-back Omar Alderete signed up by 9 am on 1 January.

Postecoglou is currently managing an injury crisis so severe that behind-the-scenes dismissals have been mooted as a result.

Spurs have been hit particularly hard in defensive areas, and are expected to have no choice but to take a risk with Welshman Ben Davies.

As a result, the club are in the market for a brand-new centre-back, and according to TBR Football [13 December], Tottenham have been alerted to the availability of Getafe defender Alderete, who has a £13million release clause.

Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – sees no reason why the club can’t have the 28-year-old through the door as soon as the January transfer window opens.

“It is good to see centre-backs being linked with the club,” Wenham said.

“If this is true, then the player should be signed by 1 January. He has a release clause, so Tottenham know what the deal is. Have the money transferred by 9 am on 1 January and the player will be on his way to North London.

“I don’t know much about this player. However, I trust our scouting team, they have signed some other lesser-known players who have proven to be good signings, so why can’t they do that again?”

Tottenham to sign Getafe CF centre-back Omar Alderete?

Postecoglou is in need of some reinforcements during the January transfer window, while Daniel Levy continues to help Spurs generate big revenues in North London.

Therefore, there is no reason why Spurs shouldn’t be paying a £13million release clause to add depth to an area of the pitch which needs it most.

Alderete is a left-sided centre-back, which is the exact profile of player that Spurs need to add to their squad. Therefore, if Postecoglou signs off on the transfer, that deal should be done as soon as possible.

Otherwise, Levy will only continue to face criticism in North London.

In other Tottenham news, the club are in the running to sign a Premier League forward amid a £60million update.
