Postecoglou must push for Eberechi Eze at Tottenham as transfer claim emerges

Ange Postecoglou could use a player of Eberechi Eze’s quality right about now at Tottenham.

Postecoglou is under severe pressure in North London, with the odds of the Australian being sacked slashed after Tottenham were beaten 1-0 in the Premier League by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Thursday [26 December].

Joe Hart, who played under Postecoglou at Celtic, has shared some insight on what is likely to be going on behind the scenes in North London as the Spurs boss looks to turn things around.

However, whatever Postecoglou looks to do, the constant injury setbacks can’t be helping. Therefore, Spurs need to act in January if they want to save their season, which is heading toward something of a disaster with the club currently sitting 11th in the Premier League after nine defeats from 18 games.

According to Dan Kilpatrick [via the Standard, 27 December], Archie Gray’s performances at centre-back have eased the pressure of a defender being brought to the club in January. As a result, a new forward is thought to be the priority ahead of the window opening.

Kilpatrick notes that Eze is a player who the club have long admired, but the chances of Spurs signing the 26-year-old in January are rated as “extremely remote.”

However, if Postecoglou wants to save his job, he should be banging on Daniel Levy’s door and instructing the Spurs chairman to do everything in his power to bring Eze to N17.

Levy isn’t a man who is known for bringing high-profile players to Tottenham, with the 62-year-old having recently been urged to change one of his policies if the club are to be successful on the pitch.

However, he has a chance to start writing some of his previous wrongs by splashing the cash on Eze.

The Crystal Palace star hasn’t had the best of seasons on a personal level. However, a lot of that has to do with the fact that he has been playing in a struggling team.

As a result, the player himself could be looking for a move in January, and he could perhaps be the spark to reignite Spurs’ season and save Postecoglou’s job.

Although the deal has been described as difficult to do, every player has their price. Therefore, Postecoglou should be pushing Levy to discover what Eze’s is this January.
