Graham Potter would “rather be out of work” than take over from Sean Dyche as Everton manager this season, according to Darren Bent.

The Blues boss is already under pressure at Goodison Park this season after the Toffees headed into the September international break without a win and rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

Although talkSPORT pundit Bent believes it would be premature to sack the former Burnley manager at this stage of the season, he also doesn’t believe former Chelsea boss Potter would be interested in taking over at Goodison.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday (2 September, 18:10) he said: “I think the majority of Everton fans will still like him.

“As it stands right now, they’re rock bottom. They’ve scored two and conceded 10 and no points. In this type of scenario, who is going to come in and do a better job from there and what manager is going to want to come in to do a better job than that?

“That’s the problem. Who is going to go in there when they’re rock bottom of the table? Someone like Potter would he go there? I think Graham Potter would rather be out of work than go there.

“Graham Potter turned down Ajax, he’s not going there. They’re rock bottom of the table.”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche after Bournemouth loss at Goodison Park?

Whether or not the Everton board remains completely behind Dyche remains open to debate. The Blues have yet to show any intention of sacking the Englishman, but talks to extend his current contract are also yet to get underway [Daily Mirror, 17 August].

There is a general feeling around the blue half of Merseyside that the former Burnley manager is on borrowed time already this season and the pressure will be on if he doesn’t turn things around quickly.

The Premier League season is only three matches old and there is still plenty of time for the Toffees to climb away from the bottom three and dodge relegation comfortably, but very few managers are afforded time in the modern game.

It may not be Potter who takes over, but replacements may well already be being considered if Dyche is to depart.

The former Chelsea boss would certainly be an exciting appointment, but has has shown little desire to get back into the game since he left Stamford Bridge. Maybe a move to Goodison could be the job to tempt him.

In other Everton news, Dyche has been backed to make a new Iliman Ndiaye this season after recent developments
