'Don't do anything stupid' - Beesley shares Dyche sack verdict after Everton loss v Bournemouth

Chris Beesley has told Everton not to “do anything stupid” as speculation continues around Sean Dyche’s future at Goodison Park.

The Blues boss has come under increased pressure from supporters and pundits after a miserable start to the season, especially after the Toffees let a two-goal lead slip as they were beaten 3-2 by Bournemouth.

With Dyche himself confirming that no talks have yet been held over extending his deal [Daily Mirror, 17 August], Liverpool Echo journalist Beesley believes it would be “silly” of the Blues to sack him at this stage of the campaign.

Speaking on the Royal Blue YouTube channel (2 September, 39:00) he said: “For me, this season is about people just keeping their heads and doing the right things and getting Everton intact into that new season as a Premier League club.

“Just don’t do anything stupid and to be fair to the people at the top, if you’d said to use after the first of June after Thelwell made his comments at the end of last season where he said players will have to be sold.

“If you’d said Jarrad Branthwaite would still be at Everton, Dominic Calvert-Lewin would still be at Everton and they’d sign eight players over the summer, I think we’d have all taken that.

“That’s why I think, whatever you think of Sean Dyche, good bad or indifferent, things will obviously take their natural course when a new owner comes in and his contract expires at the end of the season.

“I think if everyone just keeps their head, I think Everton can still finish 12th or 13th this season. Just don’t do anything silly.”

Will Sean Dyche exit Everton amid sack calls?

As Beesley suggests, all Everton have to do this season is to make sure that they don’t move to Bramley Moore Dock as a Championship side and Dyche clearly has the ability to do exactly that.

Yes, performances so far this season have been dreadful and it does feel as though something needs to change for things to finally click into gear at Goodison, but it would be naive to assume that a change in the dugout would do that.

A new manager may give the Blues a temporary bounce, but it is unlikely to have a major impact when it comes to the relegation battle this season. In the long run, the Blues will ultimately face exactly the same issues.

Hopefully, the former Burnley man manages to turn things around after the international break. If results and performances remain rotten, then the time may be right to make a change.

But at the moment, it would be incredibly harsh and potentially premature to give Dyche his marching orders after just three league matches.

In other Everton news, the Toffees were understood to be ready to spend to secure a last-minute Scott McTominay transfer
