Player made late request to exit club before last-minute Everton transfer - report

Armando Broja approached Chelsea and asked to leave Stamford Bridge ahead of his last-minute transfer to Everton, according to The Athletic.

The outlet reported on its website on Monday (2 September) that the Albanian forward asked the Blues to find a solution to his future in the final hours of the transfer window after his move to Ipswich Town collapsed.

Following Broja’s request, Enzo Maresca’s side agreed on a loan deal with Sean Dyche’s side which allowed the Toffees to secure him on a season-long loan deal with an option to make it permanent for £30million.

However, the striker is understood to be sidelined until October with an injury that put his move to Ipswich in doubt originally.

How much have Everton paid Chelsea for summer Armando Broja transfer?

While Everton supporters would have ideally liked to see a fit striker arrive at Goodison Park rather than a player rooted to the treatment table for the next month, Broja’s attitude this summer will be encouraging.

The forward may not have been pushing for a move to Merseyside in particular, but he was eager to play this season even if it meant heading to a team in the bottom half of the table for the foreseeable future.

That sort of attitude should stand the Albanian international in good stead under Sean Dyche as the Blues boss demands commitment from each and every one of his players. If the Chelsea loanee doesn’t work hard, he won’t be an Everton player for long.

Hopefully, once he finally gets back out on the pitch, he will be able to offer Dominic Calvert-Lewin some much-needed support at the top end of the field.

The England international has been crying out for some assistance over the last few seasons and in Broja he may have a genuine strike partner, or he could well lose his place if his own contract situation remains unresolved.
