Pundit fully expects 108-appearance Tottenham player who surprised him to be sold this summer

Paul Robinson expects Giovani Lo Celso to be sold by Tottenham this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to rebuild his squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The 28-year-old midfielder has struggled during his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, making a total of 108 appearances across two spells and being shipped out to Villarreal on loan twice.

With his 2023/24 season majorly impacted by injury, the Argentine made just four Premier League starts and will likely be a player that Spurs look to sell this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “There are going to be a lot of players that leave Tottenham this summer. There’s a remoulding of the squad that needs to take place.

“Eric Dier is on loan at Bayern Munich and won’t be coming back into the side, Joe Rodon has been on loan, there’s talk about Emerson Royal’s future, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has stated he wants to play more football, Bryan Gil has never done it in the Premier League.

“Also with Lo Celso and Richarlison, Sessegnon moving on, there are a lot of players that need to be moved out of that dressing room to allow the manager space and finances and build a team he wants.

“Lo Celso will be one that moves on. For him, he wants to play for his international credentials and will want to play regularly. He’s someone that surprised me because he arrived as a left-sided attacking player and he did OK when he started.

“I think it was [Antonio] Conte who moved him back to the holding midfield role, where he showed grit and determination in the defensive challenges. He’s a player that I’ve enjoyed watching but I don’t think he’ll get his opportunities and will end up moving on this summer.”

With the likes of Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr above him in the pecking order, hopes of Lo Celso continuing his future at Spurs look extremely slim.

Many might be surprised by his total number of appearances for the Lilywhite since joining on a loan move in August 2019, considering his injuries and loan spells, but it now seems time to move on.
