Pundit shares what Everton fans personally told him when player left Goodison in summer

Stan Collymore has revealed that Everton fans personally told him to “be careful” with Amadou Onana after his transfer to Aston Villa.

The Belgian international left Goodison Park this summer having been surrounded by speculation during his time on Merseyside, completing a £50million move to Villa Park to join Unai Emery’s side [BBC Sport, 22 July].

Onana has hit the ground running in claret and blue becoming a staple of Emery’s starting XI and the talkSPORT pundit believes the midfielder is loving football again after leaving the Toffees.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday (23 October) he said: “Onana that a lot of Everton fans said he’s a bit of a moody git Stan, be careful with him.

“He’s loved being at Aston Villa.”

How much did Everton get for Amadou Onana’s transfer to Aston Villa?

It was clear that Onana’s race was run at Goodison Park by the end of last season. While most Everton fans would agree the Belgian international was a talented player, he never showed the best of his ability in Tofees colours.

By the end of his time on Merseyside, he had become little more than a bit part player under Sean Dyche, barely starting Premier League games and only rarely being introduced from the substitutes bench.

Of course, it would have been excellent to somehow keep Onana at Goodison, but his big-money exit allowed the Toffees to keep hold of both Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin while hopefully remaining inside PSR limits.

In the grand scheme of things, this feels like a rare occasion where a transfer has suited every party involved in the deal. Onana got his move, Villa got an excellent midfielder and the Toffees dodged a point deduction.

Hopefully, under new ownership, the Toffees won’t be relying on player sales to remain within financial fair play limits.

In other Everton news, one Ipswich Town player has been slammed for a “shambolic” moment in the clash with the Toffees.
