Pundit spots glaring issue in Tottenham star despite what he did recently

Paul Robinson is a big fan of Tottenham loanee Timo Werner despite his creative “issue” in the final third.

The German striker, who is often utilised on the wing by Ange Postecoglou, has been slated for his poor record in the final third, having only notched two goals and four assists in 22 appearances.

With 113 goals in 213 appearances for RB Leipzig, there are clear signs of his potency in front of goal, and Robinson has backed the 28-year-old to improve his number of goal contributions.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I think he’s a good player, he just lacks end product. Against Brighton, in the first half, he was probably one of the best players on the pitch for Spurs. He was a great outlet and he had the beating of his man.

“In the second half, Veltmen took care of that problem, bumping him off the ball, but he was excellent in the first half. A lot of the good came through Timo Werner.

“I do think there is an issue with his lack of productivity, goals and assists. It’s there for all to see. His work rate is what I like, though. You just can’t rely on him for goals and creativity, though that can be worked on.”

Werner has been given a golden opportunity to prove himself on the pitch amid Son Heung-min’s injury, and while his displays have been overall positive, he has still not managed to hit the back of the net this season.

There is a good player inside the German somewhere and Postecoglou clearly believes that, utilising him on the left flank in recent matches, but numbers must improve if he is to be a main star for Spurs.
