Pundit View: Clement to be unhappy 'behind closed doors' after what happened in Rangers v Hibs

Barry Ferguson believes Philippe Clement will have been unhappy “behind closed doors” with Rangers’ performance against Hibernian.

The Light Blues stretched their unbeaten run to four matches in all competitions with a 1-0 win at Ibrox on Sunday (29 September) thanks to an excellent first-half strike from Tom Lawrence.

Despite the result, the Gers struggled to break down David Gray’s side for much of the contest and Go Radio pundit Ferguson believes that will have left Clement frustrated in the Light Blues’ changing room.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (30 September, 11:10) he said: “It wasn’t a great watch if I’m being honest.

“You can see tiredness, but when I saw the starting XI come out, it looked like he’d freshened it up with four or five changes but it wasn’t convincing at all.

“The most important thing was, it was another clean sheet and three points but I’m sure behind closed doors he wouldn’t have been happy with the level of performance the Rangers team put in.”

Is Philippe Clement happy at Rangers amid Ibrox exit speculation?

Clement will know that winning games is the most important thing during a Premiership title fight, but he will have likely been frustrated by the manner of his team’s performance in front of an Ibrox crowd against Hibs.

Having shown so much control in the Europa League clash with Malmo only a matter of days before, it was frustrating to see the Light Blues so flat in a domestic game that they really should have taken by the scruff of the neck.

So many players looked lethargic and off the pace of the game despite the fact that Clement had made several changes to his starting XI. The Belgian will know his side have to be better if they want to mount a serious title challenge.

Ultimately though, the most important thing is winning matches and the Gers did exactly that on the weekend.

If they manage to do the same against Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday (3 October) no one will remember what happened against Hibernian.
