Pundit View: Levy to 'splash the cash' as Tottenham agree record-breaking transfer fee

Daniel Levy will be ready to “splash the cash” to bring Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke to Tottenham ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Alan Hutton.

Sunday Times journalist Duncan Castles reported on 9 August that Spurs have agreed a fee with Bournemouth for the 26-year-old striker. it is understood that it’s a “club-record transfer fee”.

While Bournemouth remain eager to keep the former Liverpool forward at the Vitality Stadium, Solanke is said to have a £65million release clause in his contract which Spurs are well aware of [Fabrizio Romano].

Although Hutton admits Levy isn’t typically willing to throw money around recklessly in the transfer window, he believes he’ll be happy to match Solanke’s release clause so Spurs can finally replace Harry Kane.

“I think he would,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“It’s something that they really and can really take them to the next level. When it comes to Daniel Levy, he’s not going to splash the cash on anybody.

“That’s the way he’s always been even back when I was there. I know he has spent money, but he’s not going to do it the way that Chelsea do.

“If he feels that if Solanke was to come in, it would take them into that top four bracket then I think he will spend it. He’ll know that he needs a striker, someone who can come in and score 20 or more goals a season.

“They’ve not replaced Harry Kane yet in my opinion. I think he’s a decent age, at 26 he’s still got a lot left to give.

“I think he can be that number nine they’re looking for.”

Will Dominic Solanke exit Bournemouth amid Tottenham transfer rumours?

As Hutton suggests, Spurs have needed a new number nine ever since Harry Kane departed and strikers who can score 20 goals a season don’t tend to come cheaply, particularly in the Premier League.

Solanke has the potential to step into the void left by the England captain and thrive under the management of Postecoglou. On the face of it, this deal basically makes sense for all parties involved

Bournemouth will pocket a huge fee, Solanke gets a move to a top-six club and Tottenham fill in the missing piece in their squad ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.

Hopefully, Hutton’s confidence won’t have been misplaced and Levy will pay the money required to activate the 26-year-old’s release clause.

This deal could move quickly once Spurs make a genuine push.
