Pundit View: Postecoglou 'Connection' will help Tottenham secure 'Outstanding' summer transfer

Tottenham and Daniel Levy’s summer transfer push for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze will be helped by a new Ange Postecoglou update, according to Alan Hutton.

The Palace star’s good form is believed to have caught the eye of Spurs ahead of the transfer window, with reports suggesting the 25-year-old has a release clause worth £60million in his current Palace deal [Daily Mail, 7 June].

Although it remains to be seen whether or not the Lilywhites will activate that clause, it is understood that the England international has the same agent as Postecoglou, Son Heung-min and several other Spurs players [Football London, 10 June].

While Hutton admits that it will still take a huge fee to prize the year-old out of Selhurst Park, he believes conversations will have already begun “in the background” ahead of a potential summer switch to North London.

“I’m pretty sure it would help,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“All these chats aren’t all in the public domain, but I can imagine they’re going on in the background especially when they’ve got that link it is always going to happen.

“I think he’s an outstanding footballer, really, really talented and he’d make that team better. He comes in and starts for me, whether that be as a number 10 or whatever front position he wants to play in, I think he starts.

“Again, he kicks them on and makes them better. It is going to be a huge fee of around £50million to £60million, I don’t even know if he’s got a release clause but it will still be a huge fee.

“But I think that connection can always help.”

It may not have been the electric start to the summer transfer window that most Spurs fans will have been calling for, but the Lilywhites are certainly on the lookout for fresh talent ahead of next season.

Eze has all the characteristics to be a success under Postecoglou in North London and while £60million is a lot for Spurs to spend on one player, the England international has the ability to be a real game-changer under the Australian.

Personal terms are unlikely to be an issue given the relationship between Spurs and the midfielder’s agent, so if Levy is willing to foot the bill needed to activate his release clause, there is no reason this deal shouldn’t go ahead.

Bringing the Englishman to North London would not only massively boost Postecoglou’s side’s chances of breaking back into the top four next term, but it would help lighten the load on James Maddison and Son’s shoulders going forward.
