Pundit View: 'Talented' Tottenham man keen on summer transfer after pre-season snub

Bryan Gil will be keen to leave Tottenham permanently and join Girona this summer after new pre-season developments, according to Alan Hutton.

The Spanish winger, alongside fellow countrymen Sergio Reguilon, has not been included in Ange Postecoglou’s side for the Lilywhites’ pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea [Tottenham, 22 July]

Gil is set to explore his prospective transfer opportunities in the coming weeks with Fabrizio Romano (22 July) reporting that Girona have opened talks with Spurs to strike a deal for the Spaniard this summer.

Although Hutton feels the 23-year-old is a very “talented” player, he believes Gil will be eager to settle down with the La Liga side having not felt like part of Postecoglou’s plans over the last 12 months.

“I think so now,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“For him to go on a permanent, for him to find somewhere where he can settle down and be comfortable instead of going out on loans, coming back and just getting a couple of minutes here and there.

“I’m just looking from the outside and he probably doesn’t feel part of it because one minute you’re there, the next minute you’re out on loan.

“It keeps happening so I don’t think you can really get any sort of consistency so it will have been really hard.

“I thought he would have left at least a season ago, but it’s not come to fruition and I just don’t really see a reason for him now to go back out on loan.

“If there’s an opportunity for him to go somewhere and settle, I think that could be the best way forward for him because he is a talented boy.”

While Gil has failed to hit the heights expected of him in a Spurs shirt, it cannot have been easy for the 23-year-old over the last few seasons as he has been constantly in and out of the first-team fold.

Some managers have barely even given the Spanish midfielder a chance, while others have kept him around and tried to shoehorn him into their system, typically to little avail.

It will be best for all parties if Spurs can agree a deal with Girona and get this deal over the line quickly so that Gil can spend the majority of pre-season with his new squad.

Tottenham will be able to pocket a fee which can be reinvested back into his squad this summer, Girona will get an undoubtedly talented player and Gil will finally be able to settle down at a club where he will play regularly.
