Wenham thrilled as Tottenham bank multi-million profit after 'Brilliant' transfer announcement

John Wenham is delighted with the deal that has seen Pierre-Emile Højbjerg move from Tottenham to Olympique de Marseille.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes offloading the Dane is a “brilliant move” for the club.

Tottenham confirmed via their official website on Monday (22 July) that Højbjerg had joined Marseille on a season-long loan with an obligation to make the move permanent.

According to Sky Sports News (22 July), the obligation to purchase the midfielder is worth £17million.

Højbjerg joined Spurs from Southampton for a fee of £15million (via Sky Sports News, 12 August 2020).

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has piled praise on the club after the transfer was confirmed.

“It had been made abundantly clear by Tottenham that he was for sale,” Wenham said.

“In addition, he had also entered the final year of his contract. Therefore, to fetch a fee of £17million for him is fantastic. We signed him when he was 24 and he is moving on four years later for a profit. That is very good business if you ask me.

“He is still a good player and I expect him to be one of the best midfielders in France and challenge for the title with Marseille.

“For Tottenham, it is a brilliant move and another big-earner who was on £100,000-per-week out the door.”

It was always inevitable that Højbjerg would be moved on this summer.

The 28-year-old had fallen out of favour in North London since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou and had entered the final year of his contract.

Therefore, it was important to move him on, and Daniel Levy will feel as though he has got a good deal out of this transfer.
