Tottenham should avoid signing Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke as new transfer rumours emerge, Paul Robinson has said.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are pushing to get a deal done for the 26-year-old, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season, and Solanke would likely be keen on a move to North London [Bryan King].
While his former club is attempting to secure the striker’s signature, Robinson is not sure Solanke is a transfer that Ange Postecoglou should be targeting this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I think he’s had one decent season. He was a good younger player, but he seems to score his goals in clusters. I’m not convinced.
“He’s on the fringes of the England team, and he’ll score goals and do well in a better team, but as far as a Tottenham move goes, they would be overpaying due to his contract at Bournemouth.
“If he recreates his form again next season, there’ll be a clamour for his signature. But given his contract situation and the price tag being commanded, there are better alternatives.”
Should Tottenham listen to the Dominic Solanke warning?
Spurs have been searching for a player to fill Harry Kane’s boots after the England international left for Bayern Munich last summer, and Solanke could be that man.
However, Robinson’s concerns are certainly valid, with the forward only experiencing one positive season in England’s top flight in five attempts.
He was unable to make it as a player with either Chelsea or Liverpool and while he has proven himself in the Championship with the Cherries, it could take another season for fans to be convinced he is ready for a move to Tottenham.
With the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-Min and Brennan Johnson around him, he should be supplied with plenty of chances, but it could be a risk for Daniel Levy and Postecoglou this summer.
In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy has been told to sign Federico Chiesa as a new transfer update emerges.
