Raheem Sterling’s loan move to Arsenal has been slammed as one of the worst deals this season, Stan Collymore.
After joining from Chelsea late in the summer transfer window, the 29-year-old has endured a difficult spell at the Emirates, with his performances drawing heavy criticism after just one start out of six appearances in the Premier League and Champions League.
With his lack of impact in North London former England striker Collymore doesn’t believe the former Liverpool and Man City attacker has delivered on the promises he made upon arrival.
He told The Metro: “Raheem Sterling has been a massive disappointment. He came in and said he was going to give the club his best work, but that hasn’t happened.
“He’s arguably stunk the place out so far and he’s definitely one of the flops of the season having promised to do his best work at Arsenal.
“He’s an experienced player who has won everything there is to win, he was expected to push the dressing room up another level and he hasn’t done that.”

The Gunner’s forward has made just eight appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this season, only two of which were starts. His sole goal contributions came in the Carabao Cup during a 5-1 victory over League One side Bolton Wanderers, a return far below the expectations placed on a player of his calibre.
The winger’s inability to cement a regular starting role or provide consistent attacking returns has been a significant source of frustration for Arsenal fans. Despite boasting a wealth of experience and a trophy-laden career, Sterling’s impact on the pitch has been minimal, and his struggles have added pressure to Mikel Arteta’s squad during a demanding season.
Arsenal boasts a wealth of attacking talent, including Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard. With Sterling struggling to impress in his early appearances, Arteta has prioritised more consistent performers, further limiting Sterling’s opportunities to shine.
At 29 years old, Sterling has been playing at the highest level for over a decade, representing elite clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea, as well as the England national team. His style of play, which relies heavily on explosive pace, quick bursts of energy, and high-intensity movement, naturally takes a toll on a player’s body over time.
This demanding approach, combined with years of relentless schedules in both domestic and international competitions, may have led to a natural decline or fatigue in the attackers abilities.
