Rangers have beaten Las Palmas to the signing of Wolfsburg winger Vaclac Cerny, according to iSport.
The Czech website reported on Thursday (July 25) that the 26-year-old, who was struggling for game time at the Bundesliga side, has already completed his medical in Glasgow and is set for a fresh start in the Scottish League despite the interest from LaLiga side Las Palmas.
Wolfsburg and Rangers couldn’t agree on a transfer fee, so Cerny joins on a one-year loan, with future talks about a permanent transfer not ruled out, iSport said.
The problem with the fee lay in the fact that Wolfsburg did not want to lose the money they paid for the winger only a year ago.
£5.8million is not an insignificant amount for the German club, and they believe that they could still get roughly two-thirds of it for the 26-year-old.
Rangers secure a decent transfer in Vaclav Cerny
Rangers have made a smart move by bringing Cerny on board. The Czech winger, once plagued by knee injuries, now has a chance to revive his career in Scotland.
For Cerny, this transfer is a golden opportunity. At 26, he still has plenty of good years ahead of him, and a season with Rangers could help him regain his form and confidence.
At Rangers, he will have a great opportunity to rediscover his form and display his talent in a physically demanding league, but a league where Rangers will always have plenty of the ball.
For the Gers, securing Cerny on a loan deal minimises financial risk while maximising potential gain. Cerny’s pace and creativity on the wing can add a new dimension to their attack.
Finishing second last season, the Ibrox side will be looking to close the gap on Celtic, and Cerny could be the piece they need. His experience in top European leagues brings valuable know-how to the squad.
This transfer seems like a win-win. Cerny gets a fresh start, and Rangers bolster their squad without breaking the bank. If he performs well, it could lead to a permanent move, benefiting both parties in the long run. All in all, it’s a decent transfer for everyone involved.
In other Rangers news, a club have confirmed they are close to signing a new player after talks with a senior Gers man.
