The Heart and Hand podcast has been told that Connor Goldson’s move from Rangers to Aris Limassol is not likely to happen this summer.
Speaking via the Heart and Hand Patreon page (25 July, 7:30) they reported that a Championship club is now pursuing the English defender, throwing his move to Cyprus into doubt.
Reports had suggested the Gers had received a concrete offer for the 31-year-old from Aris [Rangers Review, 25 July] but it now appears as though a summer move to an as-yet-unnamed English club is more likely.
Speaking on the Heart and Hand, Cammy Bell said: “He has been talking recently to Aris Limassol across in Cyprus who were very interested in him.
“I believe from what I’ve been told thus far and again it’s from rumours and various things like that, that move this is not likely to happen as there may be a Championship club after him.
“I haven’t been told who the club are, but Goldson was allowed by the manager to go and leave, speak to his representatives and then go and speak to that particular club.”
Will Connor Goldson exit Rangers amid Aris Limassol transfer speculation?
Speculation around Goldson’s future this summer has been rife and while a move away from Ibrox appears to be closer than ever, it still isn’t clear where the defender will end up in the coming weeks.
Ultimately, for Philippe Clement’s side the most important thing will be getting his wage off of the books and in an ideal world they will be able to strike a deal with whichever club submits the highest bid for his services.
Talks have already been held with this unnamed club so supporters would have to imagine a deal could well already be close. If that is the case, it wouldn’t be a shock if the identity of the team is shared sooner rather than later.
Hopefully, the Light Blues will invest any incoming transfer fee back into Clement’s squad sooner rather than later as new recruits are a necessity as the start of the Premiership campaign draws closer and closer.
