Rabbi Matondo reacts as young Rangers teammate leaves on loan-to-buy basis

Rabbi Matondo has wished Rangers teammate Johnly Yfeko well on social media after the defender joined Exeter City.

Yfeko posted on his personal Instagram page [24 July] expressing his delight at securing a move to Exeter on an initial loan deal, with the Grecians holding an option to buy the 23-year-old.

Having made just one Scottish Premiership appearance for the Gers, the move south represents a fresh start for Yfeko in League One – albeit for now temporarily.

His post was soon picked up by winger Matondo, who commented: “All the best bro. Go show dem.”

Rangers continue squad reshuffle

Rangers still see a future for Yfeko, having secured the defender – who has often represented their ‘B’ team – to a contract extension until 2026 prior to his move to Devon.

A season of first-team experience then allows the club to gauge his progress and decide the next steps.

He remains close with Welsh international Matondo, who also has a deal until 2026 although his situation is very contrasting, having played 31 times in all competitions in 2023-24.

Matondo’s injury struggles have robbed him of further game time, with Philippe Clement clearly seeing enough in the wide player to include him when fit, and Derek Ferguson [8 July] was recently among those to back the club in keeping him in Glasgow despite his fitness issues.

A significant summer rebuild continues to progress at Rangers, with the Light Blues also set to cut ties with more experienced players including Todd Cantwell and Connor Goldson.

In other Rangers news, Sam Lammers is set for a permanent Netherlands return as Todd Cantwell makes a statement to Clement.
