Galatasaray have made contact with Rangers over a deal to sign Ridvan Yilmaz ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Krampon Sports.

A 9 August post on X from the Turkish outlet, which has close to 380,000 followers on the platform, indicated that if Derrick Köhn is sold the Gers man will be the first choice to replace him.

The Gers left-back has started both of the opening two games of the season, but Galatasaray director of football Cenk Ergün is said to be continuing with negotiations.

Fotomac reported on 6 August that the Istanbul giants were already in contact with Yilmaz and were pushing him to take up the offer to head back to his home country, although he is said to be unsure about the reaction if he joins the rivals of his former side Besiktas.

Galatasaray want Rangers starting left-back

Yilmaz appears destined to spend his entire Ibrox career being subject of transfer interest in Turkey and looked close to departing for Galatasaray in January [Kadir Çetinçalı, 15 January].

Jefte’s performance off the bench against Dynamo Kyiv in midweek was encouraging even if the Brazilian was playing in an advanced role ahead of Yilmaz.

He would necessarily take over if the Turk was sold but it would make the need for another new left-back a major one after Borna Barisic already left for the Super Lig and Trabzonspor this summer.

Rangers left-back Jefte.
Jefte would be the immediate replacement at left-back for Rangers.

If the right money is put on the table there is certainly scope for Philippe Clement to tell the club to take it as Yilmaz’s lack of physicality can be exposed, and has been tipped as incompatible with the manager’s plans.

But as with so many of the first-team squad at Ibrox the transfer interest is only as valuable as the offers that come in, or don’t, and time is running out before the deadline.

If Clement and Nils Koppen can line up a replacement to move in fast then a pair of deals may be doable.

But at this rate the Light Blues face being forced to reject even a lucrative bid for the left-back if it arrives too close to the deadline.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues face making a loss of more than two thirds to sell one first-team ace.
