Rangers could look to pull off a familiar transfer trick to secure the services of Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku, according to the Daily Record.
The news outlet reported on 18 November that as the Ibrox outfit have brought Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey for minimal compensation fees due to cross-border compensation rules, they could look to do the same for the Ghana international.
The 23-year-old’s contract at the Weston Homes Stadium expires at the end of the season.
Rangers can acquire Kwame Poku’s services in January itself
His impressive performances in League One, scoring suggest he has the potential to adapt and thrive in the Scottish Premiership.
By securing Poke on a pre-contract agreement in January, Rangers can preempt any competition from English clubs, where his transfer fee would likely be significantly higher due to compensation demands from Peterborough.
As he’s not in Scotland, Gers can snap up his services on a free transfer six months in advance and that would be shrewd business.
This move would not only allow the club to acquire a talented young player at a minimal cost but also showcase their knack for exploiting cross-border compensation rules.
Posh boss Darren Ferguson has hailed the Ghana international and labelled him “unplayable”.
He said, via, TBR Football: “The boy is unplayable at the moment, he’s just so good. He deserves all the plaudits and all the credit. That’s why we had to keep him in the summer.”
Whether or not they manage to beat the competition to secure his services, remains to be seen.
In other Rangers news, it has been confirmed that an Ibrox-linked player will be leaving his club at the right price.
